About Us
The Medicine of Food
Every day is an opportunity to grow stronger, spiritually, mentally, and physically
Nourishing each of these three aspects of ourselves separately is challenging, to say the least. What if there was one simple thing that we do every day that could benefit all three of those?
This concept goes back to, at least 2,400 years ago: ‘Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food’, as ascribed by Hippocrates (400 BC).
In this quote, he is pointing to the importance of nutrition from your food to prevent or cure disease and stay healthy. This is more true than ever in a society where people have lost their connection to their food source and who is growing and making their food. He pointed us toward the garden and the wild natural world where we can find an abundance of vibrant foods that are not only delicious, they have an incredible variety of healing properties for all humans.
My personal journey into the world of nutrient-dense whole foods began during my time at a vegan restaurant in Paia, Maui called ‘The Raw Experience’.
I worked there from 1997 to 1999. There I was at this 100% raw organic restaurant, where the stove and ovens were replaced by Excalibur dehydrators and long rows of glass jars filled with sprouts and fermented foods.
Working there was a transformative experience because everything we made was from fresh harvested foods. I learned to make things such as tropical raw fruit pies and fresh coconut chips.
It was here that I truly understood the connection to the kitchen from the abundance of the gardens and the wild jungle, and how this food was not just sustenance, but medicine for our body, mind, and soul. This journey, I realized, begins in the garden or with a farmer who is growing your food, and culminates in a culinary masterpiece filled with nutrients and vitality. Nourishing our bodies with fresh vibrant food from the garden enhances our ability to heal and restore our bodies daily.
For me, true culinary art begins not in the kitchen but in the garden, where the seeds are planted and fruits are harvested. From this space of the organic garden, we can effectively create delicious meals that please all of these aspects of us; the eyes with their vibrant colors, the palate with exquisite fresh taste, and most importantly, the gut with nourishing, health-benefiting foods. The role of the garden and wild harvesting in this process cannot be overstated, as it is the source of the fresh, vibrant ingredients that make our dishes truly special.
When possible, I like to use the fresh fruit I can get locally and in season, as it reminds me that Hippocrates was correct, food really is medicine, and it has the potential to nourish all of me, body, mind, and soul.

Our Mission
Is to educate and promote vital food sourcing and preparation for good health and mental well-being.
We begin our mission with understanding veganism, learning how to prepare the food, how to gain the nutrition our body requires, how to nurture our family and friends and then, how we can best support the local farming culture that is paramount in living sustainably and ecologically.
Vitalize Yourself
Gardening is my passion. I love communing with every plant in my garden, my home and in my yard. Each plant feels like it is my child or my responsibility – even the wild flowers, trees and wild herbs.
My curiosity guides me into a greater relationship with the environment as it expands my awareness with every living thing that surrounds me. Through this observation, I learn the connection between birds and plants, the rhythm of the moon and its impact on plants, the insects and the community that they develop within all the unique spaces of plant life and the extraordinary relationship of companion planting that exists between vegetables, fruits, trees, flowers and herbs.
Ultimately, how we tend to the garden and the plants translates into the relationship that we practice with our own well-being.
I grew up with my feet firmly planted in the garden, taught by my grandmother when to harvest, how to harvest and how to cook delicious food. In time, I have had my own vegetarian restaurant, vegan bed and breakfast inn and have offered private vegetarian chef services, as well as catering. The kitchen has always been my laboratory as well as my temple. Therefore, a sacred kitchen is at the foundation of all my activity when preparing and serving the highest quality nourishment one can enjoy.
Supporting farmers markets is one of the most powerful, loving things we can do for our planet and for our family and friends. An enriching, healthy way of living doesn’t get any better than this!
